We haven't posted in awhile because there hasn't been much happening. We've made about 1/3 the syrup we usually make in a typical season, but we're holding hope that the lingering COLD temps could save a dismal season. It looks like we may have one more week of potential sap producing days.....but our taps are approaching 5 weeks in the trees, which isn't ideal. Only time will tell.

Finally!
We made our first syrup of the season last night, and we'll be cooking at the Shak tonight, tomorrow night, and most likely Sunday night if you want to visit :)

Weather geeks
Sorry to be such boring weather geeks this time of year! But the forecast looks promising!! The trees have just started to drip this afternoon, and the rain coming in may make them really bust loose. And then the next 10 days look favorable for temperatures! Fingers crossed!

Delayed season
It's strange, but we will not be cooking this weekend. The trees have just not 'turned-on' yet. Enjoy your weekend!

I Spy ......
I Spy .... a tipped-over bucket. This was on Sunday when walking the woods. So when tapping (last week), we set the buckets on what seems to be level ground (snow). But as the snow melts it reveals uneven ground beneath.
We collected enough yesterday to 'test' the stove, but the ground is still very frozen. This rain will 'get things movin!' The forecast looks favorable.

Getting ready...
After this weekends 'cold blast' it looks like Maple Season will arrive! We plan to begin tapping on Sunday. Stay tuned.
